There are many muscle relaxers on the market. Soma is one of the popular brands of muscle relaxer. People use Soma in order to relieve pain or discomfort brought on by stress or injury. This oral medication comes in tablet form that is easily ingested.

Administering Soma

Soma is taken by mouth three times a day. The regular dosage is 350mg. It is recommended that this medicine not be administered to anyone under the age of twelve. Take this medicine with food or milk as it can cause an upset stomach otherwise.

Precautions

Diseases: If you have acute intermittent porphyria do not take this medication. Also, those who suffer from kidney or liver disease should consult their physician before beginning a Soma regimen. Your doctor may suggest a lower dose of Soma or require you to be specially monitored while taking it.

Pregnancy: There is not enough research available to indicate if Soma is harmful to an unborn fetus, or through breast milk. Be sure to consult your physician before taking this medicine while pregnant or nursing.

Overdose: If an overdose of this medicine occurs seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of overdose of Soma include low blood pressure, decreased breathing, fainting, confusion, and passing out.

Operating machines: Because Soma may cause dizziness or drowsiness be cautious when operating a motor vehicle or heavy machinery.

Alcohol: Alcohol may increase the symptoms of dizziness and drowsiness. Be careful to avoid drinking while taking Soma. If alcohol consumption cannot be avoided be sure to have a designated driver if you need to operate a car.

If there is a missed dose it can be taken within an hour of the scheduled time. If more time has lapsed skip the dose and take the next dose on the regular schedule. Taking more Soma to catch up on the missed dose is not advised.

Potential Side Effects

Some people report side effects when taking Soma. The person taking this medicine may experience dizziness or vertigo. They may also become irritable. Other more severe side effects include headache, depression, syncope (brief loss of consciousness), and insomnia have also been reported.

Allergic Reactions

On occasion there can be allergic reactions to Soma. These include skin rash, intense itching, red eruptions and change in skin color.
